I guess people do it because they realize that they are traveling slow and just don't want you in front of them. I guess they feel disrespect on the highway and that you (the diver behind them) should stay behind them.

Part of the "King of the Road" mentality. Let them pass me-
several times I have passed them later on when they were
being questioned by the Highway Patrol Officer! Can you say
"Speeding Ticket & BIG Fine???"

They don't want you in front of them.They feel they're the leader of some sort. And you will drive behind them until they turn off. the best way to get around the idiots on the road that does this, put on your flashers and, hit your high beams @ em. Always worked for me.

it's subconscious. They are driving along, daydreaming. They notice that the car along side them is traveling faster than they are so they adjust their speed to the flow of traffic. You don't have to think that everyone is thinking about you. Each person is thinking about himself just like you are. They don't even notice you, that's how it is.

I do it because it amuses me. I'm guessing others do it for the same reason.
