If you're coming from Sacramento, you could try US 50, but it may be closed too. There are several approaches to the lake from Reno. Make sure you have tire chains that fit your car, and know how to use them.

You could take 50 to Lake Tahoe (Which is a beautiful route) or another road, I can't remember the #, off 385 south of reno to the top of Tahoe. Be careful, the latter is a tight twisty and scenic road. Either way, the weather is UN-predictable. Take Chains with you! Be very careful, both routes are truck routes if you are in a semi, but steep, un-marked grades and very tight turns. I have done it a couple times. Good luck!
