I think that you should be able to use your train ticket as your parking ticket - therefore stopping people parking there to go into town or similar. I think that as long as your fare is £5 or more you should get free parking, if it is less than £5 you should make up the difference.
Shame that this kind of thing will never happen though, since British Rail no longer exists and it is all just a series of private organisations trying to make as much money for the least amount of effort possible!
Hate the rail system over here - could do with a real good kick up the backside, and more regulations so that the operators can't just do what they want!

Parking is free near my local rail stations. I wouldn't use the train if I had to pay to park as well. The land in London would maybe cost a lot so they would have to charge for parking but most people are compensated with extra pay for living there. Maybe you could pay rent for a space.

Here in suburban NY, parking at commuter rail stations is exorbitant. However, arrive after 10 a.m. and it's free. Why? To encourage off-peak use of mass transit. Mass transit makes money on packed rush hour trains and buses, but loses money running half-empty vehicles during mid-day trips. Shift some of the load to mid-day, and the overall cost will come down. Staggered work hours can encourage this.

Yes, it would definitely help.
But paid parking is OK too. The cost of the parking plus the cost of the train ride is going to be a lot less than the cost of driving all the way.

When it was free,it was abused and many parked all the time without taking a train.l knew one guy used it as a buy/sell operation for cars etc.High mindedness always leads to lowminded response by the public
