Question:
Which kind of bus can ACTUALLY carry more passengers, a double-decker, or a bendy bus?

The reason why I ask this is because on the park-and-ride service which runs near to where I live (the 904 in Bristol), recently the service was changed from a double-decker every 7/8 minutes during peak times, to a bendy bus every 12 minutes.

However, ever since the service switched over to bendy buses, there have been terrible problems with peak-time overcrowding, with many passengers being left behind at bus stops.

I know that officially bendy buses have a higher capacity than double-deckers. The "new" bendy buses (which are London rejects) have a capacity of 49 seated and 91 standing (140 total), whereas the old double-deckers had a capacity of 74 seated and 14 standing (88 total).

What I would like to know is a) which kind of bus can ACTUALLY carry more passengers, and b) is the stated capacity of the bendy buses higher than the number of passengers which they can really carry?

A lot of space is taken up with the bendy bit in the middle with a bendy bus. So I would say double decker.

You've answered your own question. The bendy bus can carry 52 more passengers.

The reason for overcrowding is you're losing one bus every half hour which would cause longer queues at the stops.

B if you were in India the bendy buses would be packing 280 on board

Depends on the size of the bus but generally double deckers are bigger
