ethanol, natural gas, propane, hydrogen, bio diesel(made from veggie oil) electricity, methanol can all be considered alternate fuels. These are not for the future they are being made today. Chevy has flex fuel cars that run off of ethanol 85(E85) or they can run off of regular 87 octane fuel from your local pump.

we're sucking 85 million barrels of oil out of the ground every day. there's no alternative to that i can think of.
